Backyard Landscaping

Backyard Landscaping

IMG_1577It is finally time to finish the last part of our massive landscape transformation here.  We have worked so hard creating garden rooms and landscaping our property, but now are faced with the area including our deck and back slope leading to the pool.  Like everything we have done here, it’s complicated!  It has elevation changes and must also work in terms of being a means of egress to go from the driveway to deck to pool without posing as an obstacle course.

IMG_1996We completed the pool area renovation a few years ago and have been very happy with how it came out.  Now this area has to be linked with the uphill eyesore area leading to the deck.

IMG_2442In the front of the house we did a sitting wall (18″ to 20″ high) to create a courtyard with a blue stone cap and blue stone terrace.  We used brick for the wall to coordinate with the brick on the front of the house.

IMG_1993We are thinking that in the back we will do a sitting wall again, but this time instead of brick, we will use field stone like we did near the pool.  There is no brick anywhere on the back of the house, so I think the fieldstone and bluestone would be the right choice for hardscape materials.

I will update with what I hope to be wonderful “after” photos, but for now you can see how the idea of a sketch can inspire a design direction for our project.

  1. Looks like a great plan! I can’t wait to see the during and after pix!

  2. Debbie always does a fabulous job with her landscaping and her floral work. This will be beautiful!
