Wedding Flower Trends, Tips and Costs

A bride can't go wrong with a chic and classic white color palette which always stands the test of time. Yet the wedding floral trend forecast is shifting to color. Perhaps we need a bit of color to compliment the happy occassion? Why not take inspiration from the colors that bring you joy? Stay open minded and work with a designer who can help you with suggestions for seasonal flowers with pops of color.

A great tip for your wedding flowers is to ask your floral designer if there is an afforable way to repurpose your ceremony flowers into some of your reception decor. In some cases, they can be moved! What a wonderful way to enjoy the flowers with your guests as they dine with you at your reception!

Regarding wedding flower costs, don't reach out to dozens of designers for quotes because honestly you won't know what you are really comparing. Instead, if you have a very tight budget, be open and honest. Find a couple of experienced designers who can tell you what options and suggests they have for reprioritizing your floral budget. For example, you might eliminate the boutonnierres and corsages which can add up and instead make more of a statement with your ceremony flowers. The costs of flowers and containers have been affected by labor shortages, supply shortages and shipping costs. So you may need to adjust your budget in other areas of your wedding in order to make a more realistic floral budget. Perhaps you go with a DJ instead of a live band? Perhaps a special signature cocktail drink list instead of an open bar? Perhaps buffet stations instead of plated dinner service? Work closely with your designer and trust that they want your wedding day to be flower filled and beautiful! How Much Do Wedding Flowers Cost?

So many factors go into answering the question of how much do wedding flowers cost. Your wedding flowers can be one of the most beautiful ways to put your personality into your wedding. There is no rule book for what you "need" to do, sooner it is an opportunity to express what YOU want. Traditional ceremonies, for example consist of what we call, personal flowers. Personal flowers would be a bridal bouquet, boutonniere, bridesmaid bouquets and often a floral statement for the couple to stand in front of - whether it be an arch, large urns, chuppah and/or aisle flowers.
When you work with a floral designer, they will typically ask you if you have a price range for your flowers and they will ask your for some of your specifics to help you determine if your budget is realistic to fit with the size of your wedding. It is sobering to learn that having 16 bridesmaids and groomsmen will, for example, bring your flower budget up exponentially. One of the easiest ways to reduce your expenses is to shrink your bridal party down. As well, a large guest list means lots of tables and therefore lots of table centerpieces.
Factors which effect pricing are where you are located, the venue (ease or difficulty accessing it), size, and scope. We would suggest as a starting point to factor at least 20% to your budget for flowers. If you are looking for premium flowers, and eleborate installations with greened or flowered ceilings, tall elevated centerpieces and lots of candles, your costs may be higher. Here in New England, wedding flowers and labor costs are higher than other parts of the United States. As well, weather conditions such as extreme heat (need to keep those flowers refrigerated as much as possible), or extreme cold (need to keep those flowers protected from freezing while being transported) may also contribute to costs.
Be open to discussing with your designer how to make your event match your vision and remember that the flowers will be a lasting memory from your wedding in all of your photographs!

New England Wedding

New England weddings have the charm of choosing between four seasons as well as varied venues. From the beaches of Cape Cod, mountains in the Birkshires, cobblestoned historic Boston, to rural barns, there are endless possibilities. With the shift in the last couple of years to more intimate celebrations, your choices can really reflect the mood and decor that sets the tone for your celebration. The flowers also are the perfect way to create ambiance and get personal with your selections. Working with a floral designer will take your reception to another level. The most important part of selecting a floral designer is communication. Get an understanding of your budget and whether you have someone who can advise you on how best to get the look you want. We take pride in developing a relationship with our clients and often times make suggestions to make their dreams come true.

Intimate Weddings

Intimate weddings have changed the way we celebrate and opened up a fabulous possibility to make your event extra special. As a floral designer, the intimate wedding gives the bride and groom an opportunity to shift their budget from a large catering and open bar cost to creating a magical focal flower setting for your vow ceremony. Your celebration will likely be video taped and broadcast to your family and friends who can watch along, but will not be there to attend. Flowers will live on forever in your pictures. Your bridal bouquet is one of the most photographed elements of your wedding, second only to the Bride and Groom. It is ok to invest a little extra money to ensure it looks and feels the way you want it to! The other opportunity for an extra special small wedding is to choose a destination where you can combine your celebration and a vacation with your intimate group. Locations, such as a villa on the Amalfi Coast, for example will check off every box as a unique and special celebration! If that appeals to you, please contact me directly- or you can contact me through my sister site www.amalficoastmoments.com where I have partnered with amazing industry specialists who will make your Amalfi Coast celebration stressless.

Color of the year - Yellow

Yes!!! I'm so excited that yellow is the Pantone color of the year. Yellow is such a happy color, and we can all use a bit more happiness. What I really want to talk about though is what a wonderful leading role yellow can play in a flower arrangement, or as a supporting actor who lifts up all the colors it touches. For example, yellow plays nicely with whites and green foliage. In this context, yellow tones down the formailty of an all white arrangemnt. It looks fresh, and feels like a kiss of sunshine. Yet if we move away from white entirely, and use yellow with other strong colors like pink, purple, and orange - well now you have a vibrant symphony! So let's put a little yellow in our lives and embrace the sunshine! XOXO

DIY Flowers

DIY flowers are a great place for me to explain why hiring a professional floral designer is absolutely an essential for a party, event or wedding. So you get inspired on Pinterest and zero in on a few inspiration photos, and think "oh that's easy, I'll get a few bottles of wine, invite my friends over and we will simply make 25 centerpieces ourselves..." What could go wrong???

If you want your special event to look as well as those curated Pinterest photos, then hire a professional! Weeks in advance the proper amounts of flowers need to be coordinated and ordered. Next, vases are sourced and selected for perfect scale to the tables and cleaned and prepped. Proper care, handling and conditioning of the botanical material is very important to maximize the look and beauty of the flowers. There is a critical count down that begins the week of your event to choreograph the steps leading up to the big day. Oh let's not forget the engineering involved to move the flowers to your venue without any mishaps. A floral designer is the best investment you can make for a fabulous party because the flowers will live on in the photos taken of your special day. So yeah, go ahead and play with flowers for your home, but hire a floral designer for your celebration!
